Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the pros and cons of free university education and provides a clear personal position. However, the development of ideas is somewhat inconsistent. While the benefits are explained, the counter-argument regarding financial burden is slightly repetitive and lacks depth in its explanation. The term 'higher territories' is an incorrect usage, and the overall argument could be strengthened by more precise examples. The position is maintained throughout, but the conclusion introduces a slightly different nuance than the introduction, which affects the overall clarity of the stance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or awkward, such as 'Explicate it' and 'Hence. this notion'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences is sometimes interrupted by grammatical errors. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved to ensure a smoother progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision. There are several instances of incorrect word choice or collocation, such as 'higher territories' instead of 'higher education', 'contribute many demerits' (which is confusing in context), and 'contributing some bulks'. The student attempts to use academic vocabulary, but the misuse of these terms occasionally hinders clarity. To reach a higher band, the student needs to focus on using words in their correct collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Examples include 'I am largely agree' (should be 'I largely agree'), 'it allow educate to low income people' (should be 'it allows low-income people to be educated'), and 'they are not get completely free'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with sentence fragments like 'Hence. this notion'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of errors is high enough to impact the overall fluency of the writing.
