Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many individuals believe that the authority should give grants to ongoing universities to provide free education to all aspire individual. I firmly agree because it gives opportunities to get an education to poor people equally and also beneficial for national growth and economy.

To commence with, university education is not affordable for every human being. Some people are even not getting proper food and shelter that are basic necessities of life. As a result, they are not able to enroll their children into universities for higher education. On the other side, rich people always spend money on their children' study, so they can get higher degrees and excellent job opportunities. This will create imbalance in the society as poor people always feel inferior to rich one.

Furthermore, every nation's economy depend on their young population. If the university education is costly then may of these will not enroll make them less career oriented. Apart form this, due to lack of education and knowledge, youth will face difficulties to better work opportunities and even if they get some they will definitely unable to manage them due to poor education. This make them to survive in the job market leading to increase unemployment rate.

On the other side, if there is no education fees than students will not take education seriously. They have no pressure to finish their study efficiently because they know it is free and if they fail to achieve, they can always do once again without paying anything.

In conclusion, there are benefits like equality and economical growth by proving free university education, so I strongly think that government should provide money for universities to run successfully.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear position throughout. You have presented relevant arguments regarding equality and economic growth, and you have also acknowledged the counter-argument regarding student motivation. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed; for instance, the link between free education and national economic growth could be explained with more specific detail. The conclusion effectively summarizes your stance. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is fully extended with concrete examples or deeper logical analysis rather than relying on general statements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. You use cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'On the other side' used twice in succession, which creates a repetitive feel. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the third paragraph where 'many of these' refers back to the 'young population' but the connection is slightly loose. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'inferior', 'necessities', and 'career oriented'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'ongoing universities' instead of 'public universities' or 'higher education institutions', and 'aspire individual' instead of 'aspiring individuals'. There are also minor errors like 'economical growth' (should be 'economic growth') and 'no education fees' (should be 'no tuition fees'). To improve, focus on learning collocations and using more precise academic terminology.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's flow. Examples include 'every nation's economy depend' (subject-verb agreement), 'many of these will not enroll make them' (missing relative pronoun or conjunction), and 'this make them to survive' (incorrect verb form). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors in sentence construction throughout. To achieve a higher score, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct verb forms after modal verbs, and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed with grammatical precision.
