Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of free university education. The ideas are relevant, focusing on national economic growth and individual financial independence. However, the development is somewhat repetitive, particularly in the second body paragraph, where the link between education and poverty is stated but not deeply explored with specific examples. While the main points are clear, the essay would benefit from more nuanced arguments or concrete examples to reach a higher band. The conclusion is brief and summarizes the main points effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central theme. Cohesive devices such as 'To elaborate this', 'Furthermore', and 'Consequently' are used to link ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The progression of ideas is generally easy to follow, though the connection between the paragraphs could be smoother. Referencing is mostly clear, though there are minor issues with pronoun usage, such as 'it can also effect their health', where the antecedent is slightly ambiguous. Overall, the structure is coherent and supports the reader's understanding.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their opinion clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'GDP rate', 'financially independent', and 'literacy rate'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'central authority' instead of 'the government', 'cost cut education' instead of 'tuition-free education', and 'health wellness' which is redundant. The range is sufficient to communicate, but lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('country's growth rely on education') and incorrect article usage ('the nation's overall GDP rate'). Punctuation is occasionally inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas. While the writer attempts complex sentences, these often contain errors that slightly impede the flow. To improve, the writer should focus on subject-verb agreement and refining the use of articles and prepositions.
