Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this contemporary world, education is the key to get success and prosperious life ahead. Although, higher studies are important for everyone, but some individuals may not get the opportunities for studying because of the higher fees. I totally agree with the given statement that the governments should pay the costs of running higher education platforms, therefore everyone can get their dream education and live a peaceful life.

Some people and I believe that, universities should get more funds from the governments to run smoothly without getting higher fees from the students. This would help the learners who come from poor backgrounds and do not able to pay their fees for getting higher education. For instance, a person who is very intelligent and can become a good engineer in the future, but he/she belongs to a family with lower income, hence they can not pay the college fees for getting the diploma or degree in engineering. Therefore, if the university gets more funds from the government, then it will be taking free admissions of students. hence, the person can get admission without paying more fees and would become an engineer in future.

Moreover, it is very crucial for the governments to run higher education platforms in their country for becoming developing nation in the world. So, they need to pay the costs of running universities, because if they do not do that then it would be result in destroying the nation. For example, if the college's fees would be high then the poor families will not able to pay the fees of their children. In this way, more than the half of the nation would be uneducated, this will lead to unemployment. Hence, the country will not get the deserving candidates for running the nation's financial activities.

On the other hand, some individuals think that, instead of paying the costs of universities, governments should pay for other platforms such as, hospitals, transportations, and religious places. People think that, the other platforms need more than the education, because education can help only the students but the other activities are for everyone, so governments should pay for them.

In conclusion, I totally agree with the given statement, because without education no one can get achievements in their life and also education plays an important role in the nation's economy.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The main ideas—financial accessibility and national economic development—are relevant and supported with examples, such as the hypothetical engineering student. However, the development is somewhat repetitive, particularly in the second and third paragraphs, where the argument regarding poor families and fees is restated rather than expanded. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on exploring the broader societal implications of free education, such as long-term innovation or social mobility, rather than focusing solely on the immediate financial barrier for individuals.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different viewpoints. Cohesive devices such as 'For instance', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or misused, such as 'hence, the person can get admission' and 'it would be result in destroying'. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the use of 'the other platforms' in the fourth paragraph, which lacks a clear link to the previous context. Improving the flow between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their opinion clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'financial activities', 'unemployment', and 'higher education platforms'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'get success', 'prosperious life', and 'taking free admissions'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the range of vocabulary to a more basic level. To improve, the student should focus on learning common collocations and refining their use of academic terminology.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('universities should get', 'it would be result in'), article usage ('the college's fees'), and sentence fragments ('hence, the person can get admission'). The student attempts complex structures, but these are often where the errors occur. To improve, the student needs to focus on basic grammatical accuracy, specifically verb forms and the correct use of prepositions, while ensuring that complex sentences are constructed with greater precision.
