Student answer (Band 6.5)

Many individuals think that government should be responsible for bearing a cost of running educational institutions, so everyone can get education for free. If questioned, I agree to a major extent with the laid motif. My preference is further elaborated in the ensuing paragraphs.

The foremost argument that support my stance is that not everyone has same financial condition. This is to say that children coming from poor families will get better education; therefore, they will help their families to come out of poverty. In addition to this, talented and intelligent pupils will have more opportunities despite of their background.

Furthermore, centre's money would be utilize for a good reason and this will help developing a nation towards a greater and bright future. For example, If all students get educated then they will help country to prosper as education is the key for any nation to stand-out. Not only these but this change also motivates more and more people to get university education who do not had any hope due to poverty. Hence, investing in educational institution benefits both country and individuals.

However, we should not overlook the other side of it as running universities costs major funds from the centre income. Government has lot of responsibilities in various other sectors as well, for example, healthcare, transportation, development in agriculture and many more, and if they just focus on financing one area, it will have negative impact on other sectors.

To recapitukate, although giving money from governance to universities have some detrimental effect on other area. I believe it will have more benetits like lower poverty, development of people and nation and improved employment.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding social mobility and national prosperity are relevant, and the counter-argument regarding budget allocation provides a balanced view. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the claim that free education helps families 'come out of poverty' is a strong point, but it lacks specific evidence or a more detailed explanation of the mechanism. The conclusion is clear, but the overall depth of the argument could be improved by providing more concrete examples or nuanced analysis to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'In addition to this,' 'Furthermore,' and 'However' are used to guide the reader. However, there are some instances of mechanical or slightly awkward transitions, such as 'Not only these but this change also...' which feels a bit forced. Referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be smoother to achieve a more natural progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'laid motif' (though this is used incorrectly here) and 'prosper.' However, there are several word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'centre's money' instead of 'public funds' or 'government budget,' and 'recapitukate' (spelling error). The range is sufficient for the task, but the lack of precision in word choice prevents it from reaching a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the cost,' 'the centre income'), subject-verb agreement ('argument that support'), and verb tense/form ('would be utilize,' 'do not had'). These errors are noticeable but do not impede communication. To improve, the writer should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and ensuring consistent verb forms in complex structures.
