Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position in favor of free university education. However, the development of ideas is limited and often repetitive. The essay fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the depth of the argument. While the student mentions personal experience and the role of taxes, the points are under-developed and lack the necessary academic expansion required for a higher band. The conclusion is also abrupt and incomplete, failing to summarize the main points effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and often inaccurate, such as the misuse of 'to contrast' at the beginning and 'in other hand' to introduce a new point. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of arguments. The transition between ideas is abrupt, and the lack of sophisticated linking words hinders the overall coherence of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, relying on simple terms like 'good', 'give', and 'pay'. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'pubic unviersities' (public), 'un grauate' (undergraduate), and 'fanacial' (financial). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas, and the spelling errors are frequent enough to occasionally impede the reader's understanding. To improve, the student needs to focus on using more precise academic terminology and improving spelling accuracy.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences are often grammatically incorrect. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement, article usage, and tense consistency, such as 'they dont have money' and 'it was 2010 years most of people un grauate'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and incorrect comma usage. The high frequency of grammatical errors makes the text difficult to read and limits the range of structures demonstrated.
