Student answer (Band 6.0)

Education plays a vital role for human being to be successful in the future. It is thought that tertiary education will be free for students who wants to study more and government should spend money on it. This essay will discuss about why I completely agree with it.

Starting with why Government should spend money to run the universities, Firstly, people pay the Tax to Government. So, they can expend that money for free university education for students so that they can get it and they do not have to pay for it. As a result, the literacy rate will be increasing in that country as well as that nation will become the developed nation from developing in the future. For example, in Canada, University education is free for people and Government spend in Billions for this for increasing the literacy rate in Canada.

Secondly, sometimes parents do not have that much money to send their children to university for education because of expensive fees. They hardly manage their lifestyle with less earning. Therefore , some intelligent pupils will not able to get university education. If Government pay for their education in the university then students not only able to achieve their goals but also they can support financially their parents or family in order to getting their dreams jobs opportunities. This may lead to living a happy and better lifestyle in the society.

In conclusion, university educations is an important for everyone and there will be no cost for it as individuals pays tax to government. Although sometimes not everyone afford the fees of universities as they are expensive.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding tax-funded education and the socio-economic benefits for families are relevant. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the claim that Canada provides free university education is factually inaccurate, which weakens the support for your argument. To reach a higher band, ensure that your examples are accurate and that you expand on your reasoning with more depth rather than relying on general statements. Overall, the response covers all parts of the task, but the supporting evidence lacks precision.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where referencing is slightly unclear, such as the transition between the tax argument and the literacy rate. The conclusion is also quite abrupt and does not fully summarize the main points presented in the body paragraphs. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring a more cohesive summary would enhance the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'literacy rate', 'tertiary education', and 'financially'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are occasional errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'expend that money' (should be 'spend' or 'allocate') and 'getting their dreams jobs opportunities'. To achieve a higher score, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary, including less common lexical items, and ensure that your word choices are more precise and natural in an academic context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('people pay the Tax', 'students who wants'), missing articles ('the Government'), and awkward phrasing ('university educations is an important for everyone'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage would significantly improve your accuracy.
