IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some people feel that the government should pay the costs of running universities so that a university education will be free for anyone who wants it.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

Give reasons for your answer, and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

In a contemporary era, having an access to quality eduation is highest form of privilege. There are numerous number of colleges and universities in the developed countries. However, the private sector is ruling most of them which results in charging higher fees from the students. While some proportion of people reckons that the government should bear the expenses of runnning the eduactional institutions in order to make eduaction free of cost to willing students. From my perspective, the government should take in-charge of seventy five percent universities and rest twenty five percent lend to private stakeholders.

Instead of giving altogether education sector to private companies or individuals is highly disgraceful and miserable for the common people. Predominantly, the citizens of any particular country choose their desired government by casting their votes with a vision of their own development. In this scenario, if selected party make a reform to privatize education department then what was the point to select a ruling party. Generally, the people are paying a lot of taxes such as income tax, the goods and services tax on purchase of commodies, service tax and many others. In this way, a lot of money credited to state accounts which should be invested for the good of society. If most of the people are making a appeal to publicise the universities, it should be taken into consideration.

Meanwhile, managing each and every university would prove to be a cumbersome procedure both in terms of financial aspect as well as management. Accordingly, lending the entire control of state universities would turns to be profitable outcome as the central universities will still be in hands of the ruling government. By doing this, the government would be focussed to facilitate good teaching in terms of attracting competitive teachers by offering lucrative salaries in comparison to private university providers as well as offering practical experiences to students.

Overall, becoming the sole proprietor of universities would be entirely diificult for the central government. Therefore, the most appropriate way is to lend some of its share to private origanisations to ensure smooth running of operations.
