Give reasons for your answer, and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
It is often argued that government should provide essentials to run universities so that students can get a better and free education without worrying much. I highly endorse the statement and will present a number of arguments surrounding my opinion in the further paragraphs.
To commence with, What will happen if government will spend money on universities?
it will help students to learn and become better without being tense about financially conditions. Additionally, they will get the chance to choose whatever subject they want to pursue. Furthermore, students will be able to focus more on the studies. Hence, it is proven that facilities by government can make lives better.
Moreover, Universities will be able to maintain the infrastructure in better way as they will get the grants. It will give students more facilities such as hostels to avoid distance or regular bus fares . They will not only get the shelter but also food in the mess and canteens. Bu which parents will feel relax at home . That's why it is a good idea that can be implemented.
Despite having many advantages, there can be some demerits too of this scenario as students can become careless as they are not losing anything by not studying hard. But in long term it will be beneficial for many good and intellectual students.
To conclude, It is best for poor students who cannot get the chance of higher studies if studies will be provided by government but government can balance the things by adding facilities like scholarships to avoid misuse of this scheme.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favour of government-funded universities and attempts to support this with several main ideas. However, the development of these ideas is quite limited and superficial. For instance, the second paragraph features a rhetorical question followed by brief, disconnected points such as 'students to learn and become better' and 'choose whatever subject they want to pursue' without deeper elaboration or specific examples. Similarly, the consideration of demerits is extremely brief. To reach a higher band, the ideas need to be fully extended and supported with relevant explanations or concrete examples from personal knowledge or experience. Consequently, the response aligns best with Band 5.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, though the structuring feels somewhat fragmented. While basic cohesive devices and transition markers are used—such as 'To commence with', 'Additionally', 'Furthermore', and 'To conclude'—some of these are mechanically applied or awkward, like 'Bu which parents will feel relax at home'. The progression of ideas lacks clear overall flow; the paragraph discussing infrastructure suddenly jumps to hostels, food, and parents feeling relaxed, which disrupts the logical sequence. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal cohesion within the body paragraphs needs more seamless transitions and logical sequencing to achieve a higher score. This places the response firmly at Band 5.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student displays an adequate vocabulary to communicate basic ideas related to education and government funding, using terms like 'infrastructure', 'scholarships', 'grants', and 'demerits'. However, there are notable limitations and word choice errors, such as 'essentials to run universities', 'financially conditions', and 'Bu which parents will feel relax at home'. Attempts at less common vocabulary occasionally result in unnatural collocations or grammatical misusages. Spelling is generally acceptable, but the frequency of imprecise word choices restricts the lexical range to a Band 5 level, as the vocabulary is minimally adequate for the task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple sentence forms alongside some attempts at complex structures, such as conditional clauses and relative clauses ('so that students can get a better...'). However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors that cause noticeable difficulty for the reader. Examples include missing articles ('government should provide', 'if government will spend'), tense misuse ('if government will spend', 'studies will be provided'), and punctuation or fragment issues ('What will happen if government will spend money on universities? it will help...'). Because the control of grammar is inconsistent and complex structures are frequently faulty, this performance corresponds to Band 5.
