Student answer (Band 6.0)

It has been argued by some individuals that the central authority should take liability of the expenses behind the operation of the academic institutions like University to ensure zero cost education for all citizens. If questioned, to a major extent, I dissent from the claim that state bodies should take on the responsibilty of the underlying costs behind operation of universities as it consumes heavy amount of fund allocation into signle sector and leads to deplete the seriousness in learners. My inclination will be justified in the upcoming paragraphs.

Out of all reasons, the worst possible factor that made me opt out from the mentioned view is that it leads to poor strategy of budget allocation to other various indespendable sectors. The expenditure behind effective operation of universities will pour heavy amount of funds into improving education which will lead to insufficient funding in other important sectors such as Healthcare, infrastructure, defence and emergency funds for catastrophic events. According to the survey conducted by University of Toronto, in the last decade, the fund alloted towards University expenses by federal bodies lead to steep decline of 30% in defence budget and various other sectors.

The another compelling reasoning for my disagreement is that the seriousness of academics in students will be compromised. As the personal spending behind education would be nearly zero, the fear of failing and retaking the program would be dismissed. This will discourage students from excelling the studies and enhance their skills in their area of expertise accordingly. In other words, the financial strain or the cost to repay for the studies will be curtailed leading to poor engagement of leaners in their academics. Furthermore, the salaries of teaching professionals will be decided equally leading to provide high salaries to low skilled teachers and vice versa as the governmental bodies cannot bring wide range of discrepencies in the salaried provided to thier workers.

On the other hand, the accesibily of education is convincing reason for my minor part of agreement with the proponents of the provided claim. The free education will enable learners from various socio-economic background to receive education of equal quality and amenities. This will discourage academic institutions from overcharging for a mere upgrade in the facilities provided at their organizations.

To conclude, few individuals are of the opinion that the expenditure to run universities should be done by the state to ensure free and equal education to all resdients in a nation. However, I opt out from this view as it decreases the seriousness amongst learners, improper fund allocation to other important sectors in comparison of the merit of equal accessibility of education to all citizens despite of soco-economic sta

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you largely oppose public funding of all university costs, while acknowledging that free access could benefit students from different socioeconomic backgrounds. You give two relevant reasons—pressure on other public budgets and a possible effect on students’ academic commitment—and include an example about funding changes. This addresses the task, but the reasons are not equally convincing or fully developed. The claim that students would become less serious because they have no fees needs qualification or support, and the Toronto survey is presented without enough detail to show how it proves the point. Your concession is also brief. Develop these ideas with clearer explanation and more balanced evidence to make the argument more fully supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two paragraphs supporting your disagreement, a concession, and a conclusion. The progression from budget priorities to student motivation is generally easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the other hand” help show the shift in position. However, some linking is mechanical, particularly “Out of all reasons” and “The another compelling reasoning,” and several sentences contain multiple claims that would be clearer if separated. The conclusion repeats the main points but ends abruptly, so the final summary does not feel complete. Use more natural transitions, make each paragraph’s central point explicit, and ensure the conclusion finishes the argument cleanly.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You attempt a broad range of vocabulary, including “budget allocation,” “socio-economic background,” “financial strain,” and “accessibility,” which is appropriate to the topic. However, several less common expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “take liability of the expenses,” “pour heavy amount of funds,” and “opt out from the mentioned view.” Spelling and word-form errors—including “responsibilty,” “indespendable,” “alloted,” and “accesibily”—also reduce precision. These choices do not generally prevent the reader from understanding your position, but they make parts of the argument less fluent. Prefer familiar, accurate collocations and check spelling carefully; precise wording will be more effective than using elaborate phrases that do not fit the context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional and subordinate clauses, as in “As the personal spending behind education would be nearly zero…” and “This will discourage…”. The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. For example, “the worst possible factor … is that it leads” has an unclear reference, while “The another compelling reasoning” has an article and noun-phrase problem. There are also issues with agreement and sentence construction in “the salaries … will be decided equally leading to provide high salaries,” and the final sentence is incomplete. Work on accurate articles, agreement, and clause boundaries, and proofread long sentences by checking that each has a clear subject and complete main clause.
