Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people argue that goverment should be provide free of charge university education to all students.I partially agree with this view because free education provide equal opportunities, but completely free of education become financial burden on goverment.

One major reason is that free education can create equal opportunities. This is because poor student can not afford university education. Free education allows talented students higher studies and develop professional skills for low-income families. For example, A student from poor family have opportunities to study in college and gain professional knowledge without worries of paying fees. As a result, they can reduce a gap between poor and a rich and create a fairer society.

Another point why I partially agree with this view because of free education create financial burden on goverment. This is mainly because goverments need a large amount of money to funding university. This money come from paying taxes and public budgets. Goverments also need money for healthcare, school and transports. For instance, If goverment use public money only on running universities than it reduce money for schools, public transports and hospitals. As a result, it would be better to provide free and heavily subsidised education only to students from low-income families.

In conclusion, goverment should pay the fund to university for free education so every student get equal chances to study in higher universities, although completely free education create financial pressues on goverment. Therefore, goverment should provide free and subsidised education only to those students who genuinely can not afford to pay.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you partially agree because free university education can widen access, while full government funding may strain public finances. You address both sides and support them with relevant examples, such as a student from a low-income family gaining professional skills and the possible impact on hospitals and schools. This gives the response a solid, relevant foundation. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained: for example, the link between university access and reducing the gap between rich and poor could be developed further. The conclusion also repeats the main position rather than adding a more precise qualification about how support should be allocated. More detailed explanation of your examples would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your position, two body paragraphs present the benefits and costs, and a conclusion restates your view. The progression from equal opportunity to pressure on public budgets is logical, and phrases such as “For example” and “As a result” help show relationships between ideas. At times, however, the linking feels mechanical, with similar cause-and-effect transitions repeated in both body paragraphs. Some references are also unclear, particularly “it reduce money,” where the reader must infer that “it” refers to government spending on universities. Use a wider range of linking methods and make references explicit to improve the flow between sentences.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “equal opportunities,” “financial burden,” “public budgets,” “professional skills,” and “subsidised education.” These expressions help communicate the main argument, and the meaning is generally clear. There are, however, some inaccurate word choices, collocations, and spelling errors that limit precision. For instance, “pay the fund to university” is not a natural way to describe government support, and “financial pressues” contains a spelling error. “Higher universities” is also an imprecise phrase for higher education. Aim to learn common academic collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully; this will make your vocabulary more natural and exact.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including explanations with “because” and examples introduced by “For instance.” The overall meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur across the response. Examples include “poor student can not afford,” “A student … have opportunities,” and “This money come,” where articles, agreement, or verb forms need correction. The sentence beginning “Another point why I partially agree … because” is also structurally incomplete, while “although completely free education create” has an agreement error. To improve, check subject–verb agreement and singular/plural forms, and make sure each sentence has a complete main clause. More accurate control of these patterns would make your argument easier to follow.
