Student answer (Band 7.5)
In this unprecedented era, it is an irrefutable fact that children's education has become a subject of intense debate. A few people emphasize on keeping children with the same age group, while others believe that they should be kept with pupils with different range of academic abilities. This essay will analyze my views using relevant examples to prove my arguments in the ensuing paragraphs.
On the one hand, discussing the reasons of placing students with children of similar academic performance, the first and foremost reason is to foster harmony and intimacy. This is because when they study with the same age group, they often share similar mindsets, ideas, thinking ability and performance in classrooms. Eventually, it would minimize complications, conflicts and misbehaviors in the study room. Additionally, studying with the same group usually reduces stress, mental pressure, performance pressure and sense of being biased.
On the other hand, out of the all arguments of placing the younger ones with students of diverse range of academic qualifications, the strongest one to prove my view is fostering sense of competition. This is the biggest factor in study because it motivates students to work hard to prove themselves that they are really very intelligent and knowledgeable and could stand with the other scholars. Furthermore, they can learn from each other by observing. This would ensure certain rudimentary life skills such as cognitive abilities, decision making power, imagination and critical thinking. To illustrate, one study conducted by the 'Gujarat Educational Board' in India has shown that almost above a 70% of students are more likely to acquired the essential life skills when they are kept with diverse range of students in the educational institutions.
In essence, although some individuals contend that it is the best thing to place children in the same classroom to promote internal satisfaction, I personally believe that they should be kept with learners with different abilities to enhance overall performance, gain basic life skills and promote personal and professional growth of children.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both viewpoints and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, particularly the argument regarding competition in mixed-ability classrooms. However, the discussion of the first viewpoint is slightly repetitive, focusing heavily on 'harmony' and 'stress reduction' without exploring deeper academic implications. The example provided from the 'Gujarat Educational Board' is a good attempt to support the argument, though it is slightly generic. To reach a higher band, ensure that the arguments for both sides are explored with equal depth and nuance, avoiding over-generalizations about student behavior.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used effectively, such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In essence', which help guide the reader through the argument. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two viewpoints. However, some transitions between sentences within paragraphs feel slightly mechanical. For instance, the link between 'mindsets' and 'misbehaviors' could be smoother. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the essay maintains a consistent focus throughout.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate and allows for the expression of ideas with reasonable precision. There are some good collocations, such as 'unprecedented era', 'irrefutable fact', and 'cognitive abilities'. However, there are instances of slightly awkward phrasing or word choice, such as 'same age group' (when the prompt specifies 'academic abilities') and 'acquired the essential life skills' (should be 'acquire'). The range is sufficient for the task, but more sophisticated, topic-specific vocabulary would elevate the score. The errors do not impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is good control over basic grammar, but there are several minor errors that persist. For example, 'emphasize on' (should be 'emphasize'), 'different range' (should be 'a different range'), and 'almost above a 70% of students' (should be 'almost 70% of students'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede the reader's understanding. To improve, focus on refining preposition usage and article placement, and try to incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence structures with greater accuracy.
