Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people argue that children do their best when they are placed in classes with children of similar academic abilities. On the other hand, some believe that children learn better when they are in classes with children representing a diverse range of academic abilities. In my opinion children will do their best if they are taught with diverse range of studies because this approach will help the student for all walks of life.

For the first approach, no distraction to the study, dedicated subject learning. Keeps the children stay focussed on specialization, same thinking process children and inspiration to strive better day by day. For instance, children often seen following same career path what their family prevails. As a result, living in the business environment calibrates the children and specifies clear path of growth.

In contrast, Social Interaction and diverse learning, often develop more and better social behaviour while living among others. They share ideas and thoughts. moreover, learn to behave in public and good civic sense. For example, children who does home schooling often seen shy nature and hesitant to public speaking. As a result, social awareness and civic sense is recorded best when put in diverse range of academic abilities. Additionally, this approach is useful in daily life, tackling silly yet important task, like fixing a water tap or assembling a new bed.

In conclusion, similar academic approaches allow students to follow the trend while diverse academic studies provide plethora of opportunities in future and helps students to choose and follow the passion.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent. The first body paragraph is fragmented, using bullet-point style phrases rather than full sentences, which limits the depth of the argument. The second body paragraph is more developed but introduces irrelevant examples, such as 'fixing a water tap', which do not directly support the academic benefits of diverse classrooms. While the prompt is addressed, the lack of cohesive, fully-formed arguments in the first paragraph prevents a higher score. To improve, ensure each point is explained with a complete sentence and a relevant, focused example.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the internal structure of the first body paragraph is weak. It lacks full sentences and logical connectors, relying on a list-like format. While cohesive devices like 'In contrast', 'moreover', and 'In conclusion' are used, they are sometimes applied mechanically. The progression of ideas is occasionally disjointed, particularly in the transition between the benefits of social interaction and the unrelated example of home maintenance. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring that each paragraph follows a clear topic-sentence-support structure would significantly enhance the coherence of the writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'diverse range of studies' (which should be 'diverse learning environments') and 'recorded best' (which is not a natural collocation in this context). The student uses some good phrases like 'plethora of opportunities' and 'strive better', but these are offset by repetitive or imprecise language. To reach a higher band, focus on using more sophisticated vocabulary in a natural, contextually appropriate way rather than relying on generic terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'children often seen following' (missing auxiliary verb), 'children who does home schooling' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'hesitant to public speaking' (preposition error). The first paragraph is particularly problematic as it lacks complete sentences, which limits the demonstration of grammatical range. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, the correct use of articles, and ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and verb to maintain grammatical integrity throughout the response.
