Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to address the core prompt, which asks for a discussion on grouping children by 'similar academic abilities' versus 'diverse academic abilities'. Instead, the essay discusses technology, social media, and the general desire for children to learn 'freely' without supervision. Because the specific topic of ability grouping is not addressed, the response is largely off-topic. The ideas presented are disconnected from the prompt, and the position is unclear. To improve, you must carefully analyze the prompt's keywords and ensure your arguments directly relate to the specific educational debate presented.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is difficult to follow. There is a lack of logical flow between sentences, and the use of cohesive devices is very limited and often misused (e.g., 'On the other side' is used to introduce a point that does not contrast with the previous paragraph). Referencing is often unclear, making it hard for the reader to track the argument. To improve, focus on using transition words like 'furthermore', 'however', or 'consequently' to link your ideas, and ensure each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that supports your main argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, relying heavily on simple phrases like 'now a days' and 'different'. There is a lack of academic or topic-specific vocabulary related to education or pedagogy. Many word choices are imprecise, such as 'technical effects' or 'exited to learn', which impede clarity. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise terminology related to the topic, such as 'academic streaming', 'heterogeneous classrooms', or 'pedagogical approaches', and avoid repeating the same introductory phrases at the start of every sentence.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often hinder communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'children who lean'), missing articles, and incorrect word forms (e.g., 'felling' instead of 'feelings'). The sentence structures are mostly simple or contain errors when attempting complexity. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with frequent misuse of ellipses and capitalization. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and proofreading for common errors like pluralization and verb tense consistency.
