Some people believe that children learn better when they are placed in classes with children of similar academic abilities. Others believe that children learn better when they are in classes with children representing a diverse range of academic abilities.
Discuss both these views and give your opinion

Student answer (Band 5.0)
It is actually a debatable topic. Even I am in dilemma whether students of same level of intelligence should be in same classes or not. However, In am more inclined towards other opinion because although sitting with same IQ level would make the students feel better nobody would feel inferior or superior. On the contrary, there will be no additional efforts by them to improve if they do not see somebody succeeding in academics.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 72 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. While you attempt to state a position, the discussion of both views is extremely limited and lacks the necessary development, examples, or depth required for an IELTS essay. To improve, you must expand on your arguments by providing specific reasons and real-world examples for both sides of the debate, ensuring you meet the length requirement to allow for a full exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is too short to demonstrate effective paragraphing or a logical progression of ideas. While there is a basic attempt at using a cohesive device ('However', 'On the contrary'), the overall structure is fragmented. The lack of a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion makes it difficult to follow a coherent argument. To achieve a higher score, you need to organize your thoughts into distinct paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt, and use a wider variety of linking words to connect your ideas smoothly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, such as 'same level of intelligence' and 'academics'. There are also issues with word choice and phrasing, such as 'in dilemma' (should be 'in a dilemma') and 'other opinion' (should be 'the latter view'). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas clearly. To improve, you should aim to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and collocations related to education and social development, while ensuring your word choices are grammatically accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The text contains several grammatical errors, including missing articles ('in dilemma'), incorrect prepositions, and awkward sentence structures. The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple or poorly constructed complex sentences. There are also punctuation errors, such as the missing space after the period in 'However, In am'. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles. You should also practice using a variety of complex sentence structures to demonstrate greater control over English grammar.
