Student answer (Band 5.5)

The human being since his birth seeks to learn new information and gain various skills. The childhood phase represents a crucial phase in which the child can gain knowledge. However, some researchers thinks that a child learn better when they are with children of similar academic range and IQ level while other assume that the difference in academic abilities allow the children to learn more.

First, we shall discuss learning in a group of similaire academic abilities. This option allow the children to learn at the same speed since they all have the same skills, so they will not feel differnt from each other, in contrary they feel all alike and they will be less prone to some phenomenon like bullying. Beside, putting a child in group of children having the same academic level will encourage him to make more effort so that the he will be distinguished.

Second, when it comes to learning in a group with diverse range of academic abilities, this option allows the kid to learn more about himself since the human nature knows itself better throughout the others. In addition, being in mix group, allow the child to hear and learn about new topics in which he may be was not interested at all.

Finally, I think that a mix between the two us the better solution. This opinion is given based on my own experience, I was a student in a mathematics class, my class was a bunch of mathematics nerds who care only about equations and geometry, this made me get an excellent knowledge in mathematics and I doubled my study efforts so that I can survive with the elite. However, eventhogh this experience was a really good shot and made me gain a large knowledge, I can't say it was better than studying in a class full of people with a various IQ and academic abilities since this experience made me to get know and explore new topics beyond my interests.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both viewpoints and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and supported by a personal example. However, the development of the arguments is somewhat superficial. For instance, the point about bullying in homogeneous groups is mentioned but not fully explored, and the explanation of how diverse groups help a child 'know himself' is vague. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed explanations or concrete evidence for your claims. The position is consistent throughout, but the depth of analysis needs to be increased to fully satisfy the requirements of a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use transition signals like 'First', 'Second', and 'Finally' to guide the reader. However, some cohesive devices are used mechanically or incorrectly, such as 'in contrary' (should be 'on the contrary') and 'Beside' (should be 'Besides'). Additionally, some referencing is slightly awkward, such as 'this option allows the kid to learn more about himself since the human nature knows itself better throughout the others'. Improving the variety and accuracy of your linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'academic abilities', 'IQ level', and 'geometry'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and non-standard collocations, such as 'a good shot' (which is informal and misused here) and 'a bunch of mathematics nerds'. There are also spelling errors like 'similaire' and 'differnt'. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensuring that your word choices are appropriate for a formal essay context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, they often contain grammatical errors, such as 'some researchers thinks' (subject-verb agreement), 'in mix group, allow the child' (missing article and incorrect verb structure), and 'I may be was not interested' (incorrect tense/word order). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they occur frequently enough to limit your score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles would significantly improve your accuracy.
