Student answer (Band 6.5)

Children learn at their own pace in the classes while their surroundings definitely affect them and their interest in learning. There are people who say that children learn better in the classes where they have other children with same academic abilities and on the other side some mention that there should be everybody included in the class whether their grades are high or low.

According to me ,children should be in an environment where it should be competitive so that they have the urge to get more marks and study hard. When they will look at their classmates they will be motivated to learn the topic and even when they will discuss the classwork or homework with their friends , there is more chance for them to learn from each other. Also, their teachers will have some relief and can focus on the students who need teacher's attention .Children with a bit low grades will not stay demotivate and can have good time to discuss and learn the specific topic.Everybody can learn at their own pace. For example

: When I was in 10th grade ,our teachers made two sections A and B. They separated the classes based on marks or the ability of students to learn. I was in section A where we have everybody who learns fast .We had group studies where we all sat together and discussed about topics and grades. We motivated each other and we all had good marks at the end .Our group got above 90 in the 10th grade while our other group improved their grades too .They had all above 85 which represents that they had good time to learn and understand one specific topic.

Students with diverse academic abilities have their own challenges while studying . For instance in 7th and 8th grade. We have classmates who learn quickly and some who learns slow .But sometimes some of us felt demotivated and degraded . We felt some pressure at a point where we were trying to get grades but we failed .But at the same point , we learned that there are a lot of scenarios in the real life where we have to stand up and say that we need more time to understand. Eventually , we found our way and followed that to study and get good marks.

In conclusion ,I would like to say that teachers should focus and study the students so that they can give their best and appropriate time to the kids to learn at their own pace.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The student addresses all parts of the task by discussing both ability-grouped classes and diverse classes, and provides a clear personal opinion. The position is maintained throughout the essay. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant personal examples, such as the writer's experience in 10th-grade separated classes (section A and B) and earlier grades with diverse peers. However, there is a slight tendency to over-generalize and drift slightly into anecdotal storytelling rather than broader academic arguments. The main viewpoints are covered adequately, fulfilling the requirements for Band 7.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay presents a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information and ideas are generally coherent, and the paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, the writer's opinion, the first view with examples, the second view with examples, and the conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'For example', 'For instance', and 'In conclusion', though some referencing and transitions can be a bit mechanical or repetitive. Paragraph unity is maintained reasonably well, securing a solid Band 6.0 leaning towards Band 7.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'competitive', 'demotivated', 'diverse academic abilities', and 'appropriate time'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'stay demotivate' instead of 'stay demotivated', and minor issues with phrasing. Spelling is generally acceptable, and while there are some limitations in precision and lexical control, communication is never impeded. This fits the Band 6 descriptor well.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at complex structures like conditional or relative clauses (e.g., 'children learn better in the classes where they have other children...'). However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing articles ('in classes', 'in 10th grade'), incorrect verb forms ('some who learns slow'), and inconsistent spacing around punctuation marks. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the essay from achieving a higher band, making Band 6.0 the most accurate assessment.
