Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, as it contains only 212 words, which directly impacts the completeness of task fulfillment. While the student attempts to discuss both views (classes with similar academic abilities versus diverse academic abilities) and offers an opinion, the ideas are underdeveloped and confused due to significant language barriers. The prompt asks about grouping by academic ability, but the student misinterprets this as studying different subject fields or career paths. Consequently, the position is not consistently clear throughout the essay, and the arguments lack sufficient elaboration and relevant examples, leading to a band score of 4.0 under the official descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay lacks a clear logical organisation and progression. The paragraphing is irregular, and sentence boundaries are obscured by poor punctuation and missing connectors. Although transitional words like 'however' and 'overall' are attempted, they are used incorrectly or mechanically. Referencing is frequently unclear, such as the ambiguous pronoun usage in sentences like 'we discuss with both opinion with ourself opinion.' There is no clear overall progression of ideas, resulting in a confusing structure that makes the text difficult to follow, which corresponds to a band score of 4.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is very basic, repetitive, and plagued by severe spelling errors and incorrect word forms (e.g., 'childern', 'compelet', 'feild', 'immuture', 'oppertunity'). The student attempts to use less common items such as 'diverse', 'beneficial', and 'perspective', but these are consistently misspelled or misused in context. Word choice is frequently inaccurate, which constantly strains the reader's understanding and severely impedes communication, fitting the band 4 descriptor for lexical resource.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting mostly of simple and heavily flawed complex sentence attempts. There is a persistent lack of control over basic grammar, including subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Some individual feel', 'childern gain'), tense consistency, and word order. Punctuation is largely absent or misused, leading to run-on sentences and fragments. Errors are so frequent that they constantly distort meaning and cause significant difficulty for the reader, matching the band 4 descriptor.
