IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people believe that children learn better when they are placed in classes with children of similar academic abilities. Others believe that children learn better when they are in classes with children representing a diverse range of academic abilities.
Discuss both these views and give your opinion
Give reasons for your answer, and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Some people argue that knowledge extends if children with same academic abilites study together while others trust that the better way is to be with children having various academic abilities. In my opinion, it is good in both situation depending upon the behaviour of an individual.
On the one hand, some institutions place topper students in one class and those having less interest in other class. It helps the students to achieve good marks if they are scholars, but they will lack confidence moving out of that environment. Such children will have their comfort only with their level up people and they will hesitate to talk to others.Moreover, they will not to able to face the challenges outside their class and those scholars are unknown about the difficulties the poor students are facing as they have not gone through that circumstances.
On the other hand, different scholars studying together, have a lot to learn from each other. Not every person is same by birth. Every person has an unique idea to do things even study. Like for exam, the way of every student to achieve their target score in exam varies from the other. However, children will diverse intellectual abilites are capable of understanding things in better and quick way. They challenge the opportutinites coming to them with confidence, courage and team work.
In my opinion, it might be good to differentiate students on their academic performance, a mixture of various children will obtain better outputs and better personalities though.
To conclude, children placed with similar study abilities can achieve better marks but lack overall development like children having diverse range of academic abilites.
