Student answer (Band 6.0)

Learning plays an essential role in children's academic development. Many people that children learn better when they are placed in classes with children of similar academic abilities, while others believe that children learn better when they are in classes with children representing a diverse range of academic abilities. This essay explain both the opinions along with my own perspective.

It is believed that placing children with learners of same academic syllabus helps them to learn more effectively. The main reason behind this is that they concentrate more when the same topic is discussed in the classes. Moreover, they feel connected to the other children because they will have similar homeworks and tests. In additon to this, the learners can easily help each other or even teach each other confidently in case they do not understand the lecture from the instructors.

However, some believed that putting children in classes having variety of academic content help them learn more. One of the main reasons is mind sharpness. When they will havevto learn or practice different range of topics, it will sharp their brain. Additionally, they will not feel boredom. To explicate this, they will engage with numerous activities, which will further help them to stay active as well as engaged.

According to my own perspective, I completely agree with the latter option. I think this will help children to expect and analyse plenty of world academic capacties. They will increase their learning capacity and make them more intelligent. Therefore, I strongly recommend that learners should be offered to classes having lot of educational abilities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on ability grouping and clearly stating a personal opinion. In the introduction, the writer outlines the two perspectives and their own view. The body paragraphs present relevant ideas for both sides, such as concentration and peer support for same-ability classes, and brain sharpness and avoiding boredom for diverse classes. However, the development of ideas tends to be slightly repetitive and general, falling short of full extension. For instance, the explanation of how diverse classes 'sharp their brain' lacks specific depth or examples. Despite this under-development in places, the prompt is adequately answered and a clear position is maintained throughout, fitting the criteria for Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay is arranged coherently with a recognizable introduction, two body paragraphs representing opposing views, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. Cohesive devices are employed to signal transitions, such as 'Moreover', 'In additon to this', and 'However'. However, some cohesive referencing and spelling mechanics are flawed, such as 'In additon' and 'some believed' instead of 'some believe'. Progression is generally logical, but the transitions between sentences can feel somewhat mechanical rather than naturally flowing. Overall, the organizational structure is sound, but cohesion suffers from minor inaccuracies and repetitive transitional phrasing, aligning well with a Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common lexical items such as 'academic development', 'diverse range', and 'educational abilities'. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and spelling throughout the text. Examples include 'homeworks' (which is uncountable), 'mind sharpness' (an awkward collocation), 'havevto' (typographical error), 'explicate this', and 'capacties' instead of capacities. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they demonstrate a lack of precision that prevents the lexical score from reaching Band 7.0. The vocabulary is minimally sufficient and fit for a Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, using conditional and subordinate clauses such as 'When they will have to learn...' and 'in case they do not understand the lecture'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding verb tense consistency and modal usage. For instance, 'Many people that children learn' is missing a verb like 'believe', 'it will sharp their brain' contains a missing modal verb form ('sharpen'), and 'learners should be offered to classes' is an awkward passive structure. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but grammatical slips are common enough to restrict the score to a Band 5.5, where errors occasionally cause slight difficulty or draw attention.
