Student answer (Band 6.0)

Having people with similar abilities around you can make you comfortable and eventually stop you from competing. Some people believes that childrens with similar skills and knowledge should be placed together, while other argue with this. However I feel, that having a healthy competition will always help you to grow and polish you skills.

On the one hand, parents always believe that kids with similar skills set should be together. This will help them grow together and learn in very comfortable environment. For instance. when kids with similar knowledge are put together in a classroom, teachers can teach in a more specific way that will suit all the students at the same time. Because its easier for the teachers to understand the basic pattern of their students learning and approach them in the most effective way.

However, on the other hand some people think, having a classroom with diverse range of academic abilities provide kids with a space environment, were they can compete and develope new knowledge. They feel this because when their childrens have friends with higher grades, parents can put them an example for their kids. This way they will not learn but because of this healthy situation, they will also push their own abalities to get better from their friends.

To conclude, it is really a good thought to have diverse range of students in a classroom, because not only it will help kids to push themself to get best out of them. Furthermore, it will start to train them for the real world, where everyone will be having different abilities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on academic grouping and providing a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. Ideas are relevant, such as discussing tailored teaching methods for similar-ability classes and the motivational benefits of diverse-ability classes. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the discussion on diverse classes relies heavily on general assertions about motivation rather than fully extended supporting examples. There are also slight over-generalisations regarding what parents and teachers always believe. Nonetheless, the task is adequately addressed, earning a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a clear overall progression and logical organisation, utilising standard paragraphing to separate the introduction, two body paragraphs, and the conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'However, on the other hand', and 'To conclude' are used to structure the text, although some transitions feel a bit mechanical or faulty, such as the incomplete sentence structure in 'For instance. when kids...'. Referencing and substitution are generally clear, but occasional clunky transitions prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Overall, the coherence meets the criteria for Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'academic abilities', 'comfortable environment', and 'healthy competition'. However, there are noticeable word-choice errors and spelling mistakes throughout the text, including 'believes' instead of 'believe', 'childrens', 'skills set', 'space environment' (intended as 'safe environment'), 'develope', 'abalities', and 'themself'. These inaccuracies indicate a limited lexical control, though communication is not severely impeded. This performance aligns with a Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The essay employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some ambition with subordinate clauses such as 'when kids with similar knowledge are put together'. However, there are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the response, such as 'Some people believes', 'while other argue', 'However I feel, that...', and sentence fragments like 'Because its easier for the teachers...'. Punctuation is also erratic with misplaced commas. These errors can cause occasional difficulty for the reader, fitting the Band 5.5 descriptor.
