Student answer (Band 6.0)
In a childs growing stage from an infant to an adult their brains have high capacity to soak in information. The neural ability to observe their surroundings and retain information in young kids is higher than a grown person. Few people's understanding is that young kids are fast learners when they are grouped with other kids who share the same abilities to learn new information. It is also believed that a class of childrens with a wide range of academic skills is a better way for kids to learn.
On the one hand, when a classrooms is grouped according to similar academic reach it becomes simple for the faculty to structure the teaching syllabus. Knowing that each kid will be retaining the information on a same wave length to his classmates the professor can conveniently modify thier teaching material to obtain optimum results. Collectively a higher intellect class of students can learn a complex topic quicker. This benefits students with fast paced learning abilities to maintain their learning pattern without being in a disadvantage if the lesson progresses slowly. For example, learning a complex math equation together with similar skill set classmates and not being constrained by the requirement of attention to students with slow learning habits.
On the other hand a class of mixed abilities students with different skill sets can also help the teacher to modify his teaching for a wide range of students and find the most beneficial teaching pattern for the group. Such instances creates a broader range of educational and social benefits for the students when grouped together. For example students with faster abilities to learn can set a pattern for the other students to learn, while observations made from students who have a slower paced learning ability can also be helpful for the more advanced students.
In conclusion, a classroom of students with similar learning techniques is easier for the teacher to approach his academic syllabus. I believe the mixed ability students bring overall benefits to the classroom.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The student addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on grouping students by academic ability—homogeneous versus diverse classes—and presents a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. Ideas are relevant and supported with explanations, such as the benefits of a faster pace for advanced students and the social benefits of mixed classes. However, the development remains somewhat general, placing the response solidly at Band 6.0. For instance, the discussion on how mixed-ability classes help teachers modify patterns is slightly repetitive and lacks deeper, more concrete examples. Nonetheless, the task is adequately fulfilled.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a clear overall progression with a recognizable introduction, body paragraphs addressing each view, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand', which guide the reader through the contrasting viewpoints. However, cohesion at the sentence level is occasionally faulty or mechanical. For example, 'Such instances creates' shows referencing and subject-verb agreement issues that disrupt smooth flow. Progression within paragraphs is generally clear, but some transitions feel abrupt, resulting in a Band 6.0 performance.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'optimum results', 'complex topic', and 'academic syllabus'. However, there are noticeable word-choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as 'academic reach' instead of 'academic level', 'wave length' instead of 'wavelength', and missing plural forms like 'a class of childrens'. Despite these occasional errors, communication is not impeded, and the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meanings, aligning with the Band 6 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and participial phrases such as 'Knowing that each kid will be retaining the information...'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding articles ('in a childs growing stage' instead of 'a child's'), apostrophe usage ('childs', 'thier'), and subject-verb agreement ('a classrooms is', 'Such instances creates'). While these errors do not impede overall communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the essay from reaching Band 7, making Band 6 the most accurate representation of grammatical control.
