Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 250 words, stopping at only 135 words, which heavily restricts task completion. Regarding the content, the student touches upon the two views regarding homogeneous and heterogeneous academic classes and attempts to provide an opinion, which aligns with a minimal response. However, the ideas are presented in a very basic manner with limited development. For example, the mention of communication skills in diverse classes is introduced briefly without adequate extension or supporting examples. To move up, the writer must ensure the full word count is achieved and that each viewpoint is discussed with fully extended and supported arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

Information and ideas are not arranged in a coherent manner throughout the response. The text lacks clear paragraphing, presenting all thoughts as a single, dense block of text, which makes the progression difficult to follow. Furthermore, cohesive devices are minimal or inaccurate, such as using comma splices instead of proper conjunctions or full stops (e.g., 'same class those knowledge are same cause of they are...'). Referencing is also unclear at times, making it hard to determine which group of students is being referred to. To improve, the writer needs to structure the essay into distinct paragraphs (introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion) and use logical transitional phrases to connect ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, utilizing words such as 'knowledge', 'classes', and 'children' frequently. There are noticeable lexical errors, including word formation and spelling mistakes such as 'childerns', 'comare', 'wrinting', and 'comminication', alongside awkward word choices like 'out of scope' instead of independent thinking. These errors occasionally strain the reader's understanding. To reach a higher band, the student should expand their lexical repertoire to include less common academic vocabulary, ensure correct word forms, and pay closer attention to spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of simple and heavily flawed complex structures. There are frequent errors in verb forms, tense usage, and subject-verb agreement, such as 'their childerns get', 'those knowledge are', and 'childern representing... is increas'. Punctuation is also problematic, marked by run-on sentences and a lack of proper sentence boundaries. These frequent errors distort meaning in several places and require effort from the reader to decode. To progress, the student needs to practice forming accurate simple and complex sentences, ensuring proper agreement and punctuation.
