Student answer (Band 6.0)
There is an ongoing debate about whether academic performance of children could be improved if placed in a class of children with similar academic abilities. While some individuals might argue that a diverse envoirment would suit this endeavor better. I believe an envoirment of children with varying academic abilities could encourage kids to enhance their performance.
On the one hand, children who are placed in classes based on alike academic abilities usually strive to constantly improve their performance, competing with each other in getting better than each other since they have similar academic abilities they also help each other in some ways thus improving the overall grade. For example, if all the children get similar marks aquiring a better mark than most of the peers is considered an acheivement.
On the other hand, children who are academically weak, when paired into the same class does not quite achieve the same result as intelectually stronger youngsters. This is due to the fact that no good scorer is present in these classes therefore no person to look up to or compete with and thus these children are left out as an average class. Therefore, due to these disadvantages a class with a diverse group of children would be more suitable since the youngsters who score less can look upto their peers and strive to improve their performance academically.
In my opinion, a diverse class is the most sensible solution. Children who are weak intelectually could get an oppurtunity to better themselves.
In conclusion, academics should not only be for those who have the talent to learn it. It should be open for all those who are willing to take the step.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—homogeneous and diverse classes—and provides a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. However, some ideas remain under-developed. For instance, your first body paragraph introduces the idea that students competing with each other can help improve grades, but this point is not fully extended with a robust explanation or specific consequence. Similarly, the second body paragraph touches on the idea of academically weak children lacking role models, but the reasoning is slightly repetitive. To reach a higher level, you need to fully develop each of your main ideas with deeper explanations and more comprehensive supporting details rather than moving on to the next point too quickly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
Your essay has a coherent overall arrangement with clear structural divisions, including an introduction, body paragraphs addressing each side of the argument, your opinion, and a conclusion. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For example, starting consecutive body paragraphs with "On the one hand" and "On the other hand" is a standard convention, but the transitions between your sentences within paragraphs can feel disjointed. Your use of referencing is not always clear, such as in sentences like "This is due to the fact that no good scorer is present...", where the flow of logic stumbles slightly. To improve, ensure that your cohesive devices connect ideas smoothly and check that your referencing pronouns clearly link to preceding noun phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases such as "endeavor", "intellectually stronger youngsters", and "diverse group of children". However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that prevent you from achieving a higher band. For example, words like "envoirment" (environment), "aquiring" (acquiring), "acheivement" (achievement), "intelectually" (intellectually), and "oppurtunity" (opportunity) are misspelled. Additionally, phrases like "alike academic abilities" are awkward in collocation. While these errors do not seriously impede communication, eliminating these spelling mistakes and using more precise collocations will greatly strengthen your lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms throughout your essay, attempting multi-clause structures such as "While some individuals might argue that a diverse envoirment would suit this endeavor better, I believe...". However, there are some errors in grammar and punctuation that persist. You have several run-on sentences or comma splices, such as separating independent clauses with a comma or missing terminal punctuation before starting a new thought, as seen in "...suit this endeavor better. I believe..." where a period was used but followed immediately by a lowercase start in places, or long sentences lacking necessary commas. Furthermore, there are minor agreement and preposition slips. To improve, focus on mastering complex sentence punctuation and ensuring subject-verb agreement across longer constructions.
