Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, education plays an important role in everyone's lives. Some human beings believe that, children can learn better if they are placed in classes with children of similar academic education. Whereas, others say that, they can enhance their knowledge when they are in classes with children having a diverse range of academic abilities. Moreover, I will be discussing both the views in the upcoming paragraphs and give my opinion at the end.

To begin with, some people argue that, children can learn from each other when they are having similar academic abilities and also they can expand their knowledge in the one particular field. For example, my cousing and me, we were having same level of knowldege about the geography and during our class sessions, we were sharing it with each other and other students in the class and gain skill in that area. Hence, this is considered as an effective tool to incrase knowledge in specific area.

On the other hand, pupils can learn better if they are in class with a diverse range of academic abilities. Moreover, it can uplift their horizon in different areas by sharing different views on that. For instance, accoding to the school prinicpal in my town, he said that, approximately 80% of children can learn better when they are in classes with diverse range of students. As a result, they can develop their intellegance skill by sharing knowledge with each other.

In my opinion, they should have to be in class with a diverse range of other students for their overall development.

To conculde, there has been two different view points for learning with the children of same academic abilities which helps them to learn better in one field. While, sharing informtaion with diverse group which can lead them to learn about different areas.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on student ability grouping and providing an opinion, though some ideas are rather limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion on students having similar academic abilities is supported by a brief personal example about geography, but the reasoning remains basic. Similarly, the second body paragraph relies on a vague and unsupported reference to a 'school principal in my town' rather than exploring the broader educational and social arguments surrounding mixed-ability classes. The writer's position is presented in the introduction and conclusion, but the overall development of ideas lacks the depth and extension required for higher bands. Note that 18 words copied directly from the prompt were not counted toward the minimum length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

There is a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the essay into an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different arguments. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes mechanical due to repetitive and slightly unnatural cohesive devices such as 'To begin with,' 'On the other hand,' and 'To conculde.' Furthermore, referencing and logical flow are occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing, such as 'Moreover, I will be discussing both the views in the upcoming paragraphs,' which reads more like a template than a natural component of an academic essay. Cohesive devices are used, but they can be somewhat repetitive and formulaic.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, providing a limited range that allows the writer to communicate basic ideas. There are noticeable lexical errors, awkward word choices, and spelling mistakes throughout the text, such as 'cousing' instead of cousin, 'knowldege,' 'incrase,' 'accoding,' 'prinicpal,' and 'intellegance.' The writer attempts some less common phrasing like 'diverse range of academic abilities' and 'overall development,' but slips in word form and collocation create noticeable friction for the reader. To improve, the writer needs to expand their control of precise academic vocabulary and eliminate basic spelling and word-choice inaccuracies.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on basic sentence forms with frequent attempts at complex structures that often contain errors. There are frequent grammatical issues, including pronoun agreement and prepositional errors, such as 'my cousing and me, we were having same level' and 'in class with a diverse range.' Punctuation and article usage also show frequent inaccuracies that require the reader to occasionally decipher the intended meaning, such as 'there has been two different view points.' The control over verb tenses and clause structures remains inconsistent, placing the writing firmly within the range of frequent errors that cause some difficulty for the reader.
