Student answer (Band 4.5)

Learning is something that never ends in any stage of life. Some people say that children learn better with children of same academic drills while, some argue this opinion. They said that when children are placed in classes with children of different academic drills then they learn better. I will discuss both views and give my own opinion.

Some people say that children learn better with children of same academic abilities because there will be no complex among them. Learning will be easy without any hesitation that others may have more abilities than them. Moreover, children with same academic abilities will feel more confident and take fully part in any activity. In projects and group studies they will perform better without any clash and have more ideas with same thoughts.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

First and foremost, it is critical to note that the response falls significantly short of the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, containing only 130 words. Because of this severe under-length, the task is addressed only minimally. While the student makes an attempt to introduce the two views in the introduction, the body paragraph only begins to discuss the first perspective regarding same-ability classes. The second perspective, which involves diverse academic abilities, is completely omitted from the text, and the promised personal opinion is never provided. Consequently, the development of ideas is heavily restricted, leading to a minimal response that leaves most parts of the prompt untouched.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The text demonstrates some basic organisation, opening with a brief introductory paragraph followed by a single body paragraph. However, there is no clear overall progression or concluding summary, as the essay stops abruptly after addressing only one viewpoint. Cohesive devices are basic and sometimes repetitive, such as the frequent repetition of 'children learn better with children of same academic abilities'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the lack of a fully developed structure and missing discussion points mean that ideas are not arranged in a fully coherent and logical manner throughout a complete essay layout.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and minimally adequate for the task. The student frequently repeats simple phrases such as 'academic drills' and 'academic abilities' rather than demonstrating a wider range. There are also noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward collocations, such as 'take fully part' instead of 'take full part' or 'participate fully', and 'there will be no complex among them', which can cause some difficulty for the reader in grasping the precise meaning intended.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The grammar reflects a very limited range of structures, relying primarily on simple sentences and basic compound forms. Attempts at slightly more complex structures contain frequent errors. Examples include 'children learn better with children of same academic drills' (missing the article 'the' before 'same') and 'They said that when children are placed in classes with children of different academic drills then they learn better' (tense inconsistency and unnecessary inclusion of 'then'). Frequent errors in articles, prepositions, and verb forms persist throughout the short text, though the basic meaning can still be understood.
