Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that childern perform better academically when they study with students who have similiar availability. However, others believe that having students with different academic ability is more benficial. This essay will discuss not only both view points but also my opinion in the upcoming paragraphs.

On the one hand, placing students with similiar academics have more advandages. To explain it, teachers may find more conveninent to teach the same lesson to each and every available student at a same time.Intelligent students who catch the lesson fast can help the weaker partner side by side. To cite an example, a survey conducted by national sample survey office concluded that 70% of the academically sudents given more challenging task to perform in the class while, weaker students can find support. As a result, childerns may understand the subject more easily and effectuvely.

On the other hand, student studing with the mixed ability offers several benefits. In other words, young learner can exchange knowledge and support from each other. If any of the classmates find difficulty in learning the mathematics High- achieving students can assist them to find the solution quickly. To exemplify, a headline of (BBC) British Broadcasting Cooperation includes that helping your classmates not only improves understanding but also ameliorates the sense of responsibility. Hence, Studying together with diverse range of academics can make a stronger bond with each other.

In conclusion, it can be concluded that mixed ability classroom is a better option as they promote teamwork and confidence while separating students from learning same academics.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear preference for mixed-ability classes in the conclusion. The points about teachers adapting lessons and classmates supporting one another are relevant, and the examples help illustrate the arguments. However, the two views are not developed equally: the first paragraph’s claim that similar-ability grouping has advantages is followed by an example of stronger students helping weaker ones, which actually describes mixed-ability learning. This makes the reasoning for the first view unclear. The survey and BBC references are also asserted rather than explained or connected in detail to the claims. Clarify the distinction between the two classroom arrangements and extend each main reason with a more directly relevant explanation or example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” makes the progression easy to follow, and the main ideas are generally grouped appropriately. This is a solid organisational foundation. To make the flow more natural and precise, reduce formulaic framing such as “This essay will discuss…” and “To cite an example,” and ensure that each example supports the point in its paragraph. In particular, the stronger-student support example in the first body paragraph conflicts with its focus on similar-ability classes. Some transitions and references are also abrupt, so connect claims and evidence more explicitly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “academically,” “challenging task,” “high-achieving,” “diverse range,” and “sense of responsibility.” These choices show an effort to discuss the issue beyond basic terms. However, spelling errors and inaccurate word choices are noticeable, including “childern,” “similiar,” “availability” where you mean ability, and “benficial.” Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “same academics” and “stronger bond with each other,” which reduce precision. Aim to use familiar vocabulary accurately before reaching for more elaborate expressions, and check spelling carefully. More precise phrases for grouping, peer support, and academic progress would make your arguments clearer and more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple and more complex forms, including a conditional sentence beginning “If any of the classmates find difficulty…” and a contrast structure with “not only…but also.” The overall meaning is usually understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “placing students with similar academics have” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “at a same time” needs a different article construction. In “student studying with the mixed ability offers,” the subject and verb form do not agree naturally, and “young learner can exchange” needs plural agreement or an article. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after full stops and unnecessary capitalisation. Review agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
