Student answer (Band 6.0)

Education plays an important role in everyone's life. It is argued that children can learn better if they study with similar level of peers in academics. However, others think that the pupils with different levels in academic can help other students to improve skills. This essay will illustrated both perspectives along with my opinion in the subsequent paragraphs.

To embark upon, there are substantial reasons which supports the former notions. The predominant one is that children do not feel peer pressure. To elaborate it, they have less competitive environment, so they can concentrate on their studies without stress. As an outcome, they get relaxed and focused on their studies. Moreover, there is no discrimination based on the level of student. For instance, all students get same attention from their teachers in class because no one is prioritize based on the level. Thus, it helps them to improve their scores.

Moving towards the later view, one of the main reasons is that competition is increasing at an alarming rate, the students who are more active in studies, they can help other to improve in their acadamics and also prepare them to work in competitive environment in future. Moreover, the different competitions can be organised, which give chance to intelligent students to get scholarships. This helps poor students who cannot afford their study expenses. Hence , it aids them to achieve their goals.

In conclusion, both perspectives have their merits. However, I prefer later viewpoints because it is more advantageous based on this competitive world, so that they can get success in their future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and state a clear preference for mixed-ability classes in the conclusion, so the response remains relevant to the task. The discussion of similar-ability classes includes a reason—less pressure may help pupils focus—and the other view is linked to peer support and preparation for competition. However, these points are not developed evenly or fully. For example, the claim that mixed classes can lead to scholarships for poorer students is not clearly explained, and the benefits of grouping students by similar ability could use a concrete example. To strengthen the response, explain how each classroom arrangement affects learning in practice, then connect your examples directly to your final preference.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. Transitions such as “To embark upon,” “Moving towards the later view,” and “In conclusion” make the stages of the discussion easy to identify. This organisation is effective, and the reader can follow the main progression. However, some linking is mechanical, and connections within sentences are occasionally unclear—for example, the long sentence beginning “the students who are more active in studies” combines several ideas without clear boundaries. There are also spacing and punctuation issues that interrupt flow. Use simpler links where appropriate and divide multi-part explanations into shorter sentences with clear references.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “peer pressure,” “discrimination,” “competitive environment,” and “scholarships,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “predominant” and “alarming rate.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “similar level of peers in academics,” “different levels in academic,” and “improve their scores” where the intended meaning may be broader. “Later viewpoints” is also an imprecise reference to the second view. These choices sometimes make the argument less clear. Aim for natural academic collocations and check spelling, including “academics,” rather than relying on formal-sounding phrases.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, using clauses with “because,” “so,” and “which,” and the overall meaning is generally understandable. However, some grammatical errors remain across the response. Examples include subject–verb agreement in “reasons which supports,” the incorrect form “will illustrated,” and “no one is prioritize.” Articles and plural forms also need attention, as in “a less competitive environment” and “help other students.” Several sentences run together or use commas where a full stop is needed, particularly in the paragraph beginning “Moving towards the later view.” Review verb forms and agreement, and punctuate longer sentences so that each clause is clearly connected.
