Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is often argued by some proponents that children will have a better learning chance if they are placed within similar academic ability section. While critics content that students who are placed in mixed-ability based class has a better understanding of difficult subjects. This essay will discuss both the views followed by a personal opinion.
On the one hand, some individuals think of the students would have a easy comprehesion of the topics discussed, if they study with the same-ability children. Moreover, it is also believed that this will help the teacher to teach the students in a constant pace. For instance, a set of notes for a topic with an easy explaination to all the kids will be a facile way for the teacher.
On the other hand, people with a diverse range of academic abilities in a class tend to learn in a different way. For example, child who has better understanding of a mathematical problem can aid other student who is struggling to solve it, this provides an opportunity of collaboration, and also to comprehend the topic. Moreover, this class allows the students to think outside the box when facing a cirtical topic.
In my opinion, same-ability class will have a constant learning pace with a slow academic growth. However, I am more inclined towards mixed-ability section as it allows the students to thinking about a theory or a subject in completely different perspective which improves their critical thinking ability.
In conclusion, both views has their own benefits. But, mixed-ability kids will have a better way to learn the improtant and difficult topic.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both views and give a clear preference for mixed-ability classes, especially in the paragraph beginning “In my opinion.” The explanation that stronger students can help classmates and that this encourages collaboration is relevant, and the conclusion reinforces your position. However, the two sides are not developed equally: the case for similar-ability classes mainly rests on easier comprehension and a steady teaching pace, while the mixed-ability benefits receive more explanation. The example about a teacher preparing notes is also somewhat unclear as support for grouping students by ability. To strengthen the response, explain more fully why a shared pace benefits learning and add a specific example showing how mixed-ability collaboration improves understanding.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, your opinion, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” makes the progression easy to follow. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and also shows some of the flexibility associated with stronger cohesion. However, the linking can feel formulaic, and some connections between ideas are not fully clear. For example, “Moreover” introduces points without explaining their relationship, and the opening sentence of the second view is vague before the example clarifies it. Use more precise referencing and connect each example explicitly to the claim it supports.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “academic abilities,” “collaboration,” “learning pace,” and “critical thinking,” and you attempt less common words such as “comprehension” and “perspective.” However, the range is limited by repeated general terms such as “students,” “class,” and “topic,” while several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward: “better learning chance,” “constant pace,” and “facile way” do not express the intended ideas naturally. Spelling errors such as “comprehesion,” “explaination,” “cirtical,” and “improtant” also reduce accuracy. Build a more reliable range by learning common academic collocations and checking spelling, rather than choosing uncommon words when their meaning or use is uncertain.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex forms, including a contrast clause beginning “While critics…” and conditional phrasing such as “if they study with…” Meaning is generally recoverable, but some grammatical errors occur across the response. Examples include “a easy comprehension,” “students … has,” “child … can aid other student,” and “both views has,” involving articles, agreement, and singular/plural forms. The sentence “I am more inclined … as it allows the students to thinking” also has an incorrect verb pattern. Some sentences are long and joined with commas, as in the example about a child helping another student, which makes the structure harder to control. Practise accurate agreement and verb patterns, and divide long sentences where needed.
