Student answer (Band 5.0)

The line graph illustrate the number of participants engaged on five different activities at one social Centre in Melbourne Australia between 2000 to 2020.

Overall, film club is most poplar activity but after some time amateur dramatics and martial arts are common and also tennis is spread very quickly rather than other activities.

In 2000 number of participants join the film club. while after some time people leave the film club. In 2000 sixty people join the film club but 36 people remains in 2020.Amateur dramatics has 25 participants in 2000 and its size has been eventually decreasing and it remains 14 in 2020.

When martial arts started in Australia in 2000 over 35 people join the martial arts coaching classes. it only be increased to 37 participants after several years. on the other prospective when tennis starts round about 50 people join tennis clubs and it can be increased to 75 participants after several years. so it proves that tennis is growing rapidly than other activities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response identifies several relevant activities and attempts an overview, but it only minimally reports the graph’s main features and contains major inaccuracies. For example, it says film-club participation falls to 36 in 2020, whereas it remains high at about 66; it also claims tennis rises from around 50 to 75, although table tennis actually grows from about 16 to 54. The statement that amateur dramatics reaches 14 in 2020 is also incorrect; it falls to about 6. The overview is unclear and does not accurately compare the leading and changing activities. To improve, select the main trends and report the figures carefully, distinguishing table tennis from the other activities.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some basic organisation: an opening sentence is followed by an overview and then paragraphs describing activities. This gives the response a recognisable structure. However, progression within the body is difficult to follow because several activities and time points are mixed together, and some comparisons are not clearly signposted. The overview’s claim that amateur dramatics and martial arts become common does not connect clearly to the later details. Linking phrases such as “while,” “on the other hand,” and “so” are used, but they do not always express the relationship accurately. Grouping the stable high figures, the sharp rise in table tennis, and the decline in amateur dramatics into clear comparisons would make the report easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses a basic range of topic vocabulary, including “participants,” “film club,” “martial arts,” and “decreasing,” so the reader can identify the activities being discussed. However, vocabulary is repetitive and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes obscuring the intended meaning. For example, “tennis is spread very quickly” and “on the other prospective” are not natural ways to describe a trend or contrast, while “most poplar” contains a spelling error. “Join” and “remains” are also used imprecisely when describing participant numbers. Use standard trend language such as “rose,” “declined,” “remained stable,” and “reached,” and check spelling and collocations before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast introduced by “while” and a clause beginning “when tennis starts.” However, control is inconsistent, and frequent errors in sentence structure, tense, agreement, and articles make some statements difficult to interpret. Examples include “The line graph illustrate,” “between 2000 to 2020,” and “it only be increased.” The sentence beginning “In 2000 number of participants join the film club” is also incomplete or unclear, and punctuation and spacing are uneven. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and basic sentence patterns first—for example, “The number of participants was 64 in 2000 and rose to 66 by 2020”—then add complex clauses while maintaining grammatical control.
