Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You identify the main patterns accurately: the film club remains the largest activity, table tennis rises markedly, and amateur dramatics declines. The overview is clear, and the response supports it with relevant figures, including the film club’s rise from about 64 to 66 and amateur dramatics’ fall to around 6. You also note the emergence and growth of musical performances. Some details are less precise: table tennis began at 16, rather than 18, and its rise was especially sharp after 2010; martial arts fluctuated between 32 and 38, rather than 30 and 38. These small inaccuracies do not undermine the overall account, but more exact reporting of key values and changes would strengthen it further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a concise overview, and two paragraphs describing the activities. The sequence from the leading film club to table tennis and martial arts, followed by musical performances and amateur dramatics, makes the main comparisons easy to follow. Linking expressions such as “Next,” “After that,” and “At the opposite case” help signal progression, although the repeated list-like transitions make the cohesion somewhat mechanical. Some connections between figures could be made more explicit, particularly when comparing table tennis with martial arts or describing the contrasting trends. Improve paragraph flow by grouping activities with similar patterns and using clearer references, while also correcting spacing after full stops and commas.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a suitable range of vocabulary for describing trends, including “fluctuations,” “significant increase,” “dramatic drop,” and “peaking.” These choices help communicate the main movements in the graph, and the meaning is generally clear. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “the most amount of participants,” “rise significally,” and “third activity.” There are also spelling or word-form errors, including “theres” and “participates” where “participants” is intended. Aim for precise, natural chart language and check spelling and word forms carefully. Using a few accurate alternatives for increases, decreases, and rankings would make the description more fluent and less repetitive.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of sentence forms, including longer sentences that compare several activities, and the overall meaning can usually be understood. However, grammatical control is uneven. For example, “the number of participants … activities happened” has an incorrect clause structure, while “table tennis … begins … and rise” shifts tense and has subject–verb agreement problems. The sentence beginning “With 0 participants…” also lacks a clear main clause, and several sentences run together without appropriate punctuation. Use the past tense consistently for the period shown, check agreement between subjects and verbs, and separate complete ideas with full stops. Building accurate shorter sentences before adding complex comparisons will improve clarity.
