Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the chart’s subject and mention several relevant trends, including the film club’s consistently high participation, the rise in table tennis, and the decline in amateur dramatics. However, the overview mainly lists the activities rather than summarising the main changes, and some details are inaccurate: film-club participation ends slightly above its 2000 level, not at the same level; table tennis rises overall rather than decreasing by 2020; and musical performances reach about 18 participants, not merely “10% and above.” The use of percentages is also inappropriate because the graph reports participant numbers. To make the report more complete, give a clear overview of the contrasting trends and support it with accurate figures and comparisons across the period.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has an opening and uses paragraph breaks to separate some of the information, and phrases such as “Overall,” “To begin with,” and “Moreover” show an attempt to guide the reader. However, there is no clear progression from a concise overview to organised comparisons: the second paragraph lists categories, while later paragraphs revisit them in a confusing order. Some linking phrases are repetitive or awkward, and “Further;more” interrupts the flow. Group the series by their main patterns—for example, the rising table-tennis and musical-performance figures, then the declining amateur-dramatics figures—and use clear references so each comparison is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “decreased,” “gradually increased,” and “fluctuated,” and the activity names help identify the data being discussed. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning unclear, such as “depicts layout about number of applicants are participants” and “number of participated.” There are also spelling errors, including “performences,” “tablle,” and “reamin,” and “%” is repeatedly used where the chart measures numbers of participants. Choose precise reporting language and check word forms and spelling. For example, describe figures as “participants” and use verbs such as “rose,” “fell,” or “remained stable” accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts longer sentences and uses time expressions such as “in the year 2000” and “in the year 2020,” but sentence structures are often faulty, and errors frequently make relationships between ideas difficult to understand. For instance, “in film club number of participated which is around 65%” lacks a clear grammatical subject and verb, while “then rise again at the 2020 reached 50% and above” has problems with verb form and sentence construction. Commas and full stops are also used inconsistently, creating run-on sequences. Practise writing shorter, complete sentences with a clear subject and past-tense verb, then combine ideas using accurate clauses such as “Table-tennis participation rose from 16 in 2000 to 54 in 2020.”
