Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the film club as the largest activity and note that amateur dramatics declined, which gives the response a relevant overview. However, several key details are inaccurate or unclear: musical performances began in 2010, not 2005, and table tennis rose strongly to about 54 participants rather than 50. Martial arts fluctuated between roughly 32 and 38; it did not remain unchanged. The claim that musical performances stayed lowest throughout is also incorrect by 2020, when amateur dramatics had fallen to about 6. The response reports some main features, but limited and misreported comparisons leave the task only partly addressed. Focus on the overall trends and use accurate figures to support them.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic structure, with an opening, an overview and a paragraph of details, and it attempts to compare activities using phrases such as “On the other hand” and “In contrast.” However, the progression is difficult to follow because several series are discussed in a crowded sequence, and the final ranking repeats information without clarifying the trends. Some linking words do not express the relationship accurately; for example, “However” introduces musical performances without a clear contrast. Group the rising, falling and relatively stable activities, and use connectors only where the relationship is clear. Clearer paragraph development and more precise referencing would make the information easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for describing trends, including “decline,” “escalate” and “participants,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or awkward, such as “intensify” for an increase in numbers, “subside” for a decline, and “some alter occur” for a change. Repetition of “number of participants” and “when it comes to” also makes the description less precise. There are spelling errors, including “illsutrates,” “paticipants” and “tennies,” which reduce clarity. Build a reliable set of trend verbs and collocations, and check spelling and word forms before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and more complex sentences, including contrasts introduced by “unlike” and “while,” but control is inconsistent. Errors occur in sentence structure, verb forms and agreement: “number of participants … remain” needs a plural subject or a singular verb, while “this activity have” should be “this activity had.” Articles and prepositions are also often missing, as in “at social centre” and “in melbourne.” Punctuation and spacing problems, such as “Overall, number,” make sentence boundaries harder to read. Practise accurate past-tense descriptions and complete sentence patterns, then check articles, agreement and punctuation. These recurring errors sometimes make the intended comparisons difficult to understand.
