Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main overall pattern that the film club remained the most popular activity and that table tennis rose substantially, and you include some relevant figures, such as film-club participation being above 60 at the start and amateur dramatics having about 25 participants in 2000. However, the account is partial: it omits the strong rise in musical performances from zero to around 18 and does not clearly report table tennis’s final figure of about 54. The claim that martial arts remained third is inaccurate; it was generally second, and finished third only because table tennis overtook it. The response is also 13 words below the 150-word minimum (the eight words copied from the prompt are excluded), leaving trends underdeveloped.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction to an overview and then to selected activities. This gives the reader a general sense of the report’s purpose. However, progression is limited because the final paragraph groups several activities together without clearly comparing their trends, and the musical-performances line is left as a brief, unsupported statement. Linking phrases such as “In sum” and “on other hand” are attempted, but the latter lacks a clear contrast and the transition into the final paragraph is abrupt. Organise the details into clearer comparisons—for example, rising activities versus declining or relatively stable ones—and use references and connectors that make those relationships explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “participants,” “fluctuations,” “increased,” and “fallen,” and “skyrocketed” conveys a sharp rise. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “holds the highest number,” “few number,” and “consists more than 60 number of participants.” Spelling errors, including “activites,” “consistantly,” “undego,” and “fluctualtions,” are noticeable and reduce precision. Choose standard, neutral reporting language and check spelling carefully; for example, “had the highest number,” “the fewest participants,” and “stood at just over 60” would express the data more naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including a contrast between the film club’s early decline and later increase. However, control is inconsistent, and errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries occur frequently enough to make some statements difficult to follow. Examples include “The bar graph illustrate,” “table tennis have,” and “it have dipped”; these subjects require singular verb forms. The phrase “for period 2000 to 2020” also needs an article and a more complete time expression. Punctuation is unreliable, as in “2020.on other hand,” and several clauses are joined without clear structure. Practise accurate simple comparisons first, then combine them using controlled subordinate clauses.
