Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to provide a clear overview or identify key trends effectively. While it mentions the activities, the description is repetitive and lacks analytical depth. The student describes individual lines in isolation rather than comparing them or highlighting significant features, such as the overall growth or decline of specific categories. Furthermore, the response incorrectly identifies the graph as a 'bar graph' when it is clearly a line graph. The information provided is descriptive rather than analytical, and the lack of a summary paragraph prevents the response from fully addressing the requirements of the task. To improve, focus on grouping trends and highlighting the most significant changes over the 20-year period.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response lacks logical organization and paragraphing. It consists of a series of short, disjointed sentences that do not flow well. There is a lack of cohesive devices (such as 'however', 'meanwhile', or 'consequently') to link ideas, making the text feel mechanical and repetitive. The referencing is also unclear, as the writer frequently repeats the same information about the graph's content rather than progressing the narrative. To improve, use transition words to connect related ideas and structure the response into clear paragraphs: an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on specific trends.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. The student relies heavily on basic verbs like 'raised', 'decreased', and 'increased' throughout the text. There is no attempt to use more sophisticated vocabulary related to data description (e.g., 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained stable', 'significant growth'). Additionally, the phrasing is often unnatural, such as 'these lines are called as film club'. The misuse of the term 'bar graph' indicates a lack of familiarity with basic academic terminology. To improve, expand your range of reporting verbs and nouns to describe trends more precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The grammatical range is very limited, consisting almost entirely of simple sentences. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'no. of participants are', 'Musical performance are raised') and article usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods. The sentence structures are repetitive, lacking the complexity required for higher bands. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequent errors and lack of structural variety hinder the overall quality of the writing. To improve, practice using complex sentence structures, such as relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions, and pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement.
