Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all activities mentioned in the graph, but the analysis is quite superficial. While you identify some trends, such as the 'dip' in film club or the 'bump' in amateur dramatics, the report lacks a clear overview of the most significant trends or a cohesive comparison between the categories. The description of the data is often vague (e.g., 'up and down' or 'not so much movement'), which fails to provide the precise reporting required for an Academic Task 1. To improve, ensure you highlight the overall trends and use specific data points to support your observations, rather than just describing the visual shape of the lines.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into short paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The transition between sentences is often abrupt, and there is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas effectively. For instance, the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is mechanical, and the use of linking words like 'Then' and 'Lastly' is repetitive. The paragraphing is also inconsistent, as the response is essentially a list of observations rather than a structured report. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'In contrast,' 'Furthermore,' 'Subsequently') to create a smoother flow between your points.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. You rely on basic descriptors like 'huge number,' 'big fall,' and 'not so much movement.' There are also several spelling errors, such as 'amature' (amateur), 'perfoemances' (performances), and 'individulas' (individuals). While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of precise terminology for describing trends (e.g., 'fluctuated,' 'remained stable,' 'declined significantly') prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focus on learning specific collocations used to describe data trends to enhance the sophistication of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'This include,' 'individulas shows') and article usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. While the errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like subject-verb agreement and missing articles. Incorporating more complex structures, such as relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions, would also help improve your range.
