Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the graph, such as the trends for table tennis and amateur dramatics. However, the overview is weak and lacks a clear summary of the most significant trends. Some data points are described inaccurately or are difficult to follow, such as the claim that the film club and martial arts show 'similar stability' when the graph shows a significant decline for the film club. The description of the musical performance starting in 2005 is accurate, but the overall analysis lacks the precision required for a higher band. To improve, ensure that all data points are clearly identified and that the overview highlights the most striking differences and trends across the entire period.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as the repetitive use of 'and' or 'the graph shows'. The transition between ideas is sometimes abrupt, and the logical progression is hindered by awkward phrasing. For example, the shift from discussing table tennis to amateur dramatics lacks a smooth transition. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'conversely', 'in contrast') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the data.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety expected at higher levels. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'stable rises' instead of 'steady increase' and 'in additionally' which is grammatically incorrect. The student relies on basic descriptors like 'shows' and 'join' repeatedly. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of sophisticated vocabulary and occasional errors in collocation limit the score. To improve, focus on using more precise verbs and nouns related to data trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'declined', or 'remained constant'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentences, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the table tennis shows steadily growth'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward sentence structures (e.g., 'in 2020 the graph in peak'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization and comma usage. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures and proofreading for common errors like verb tense consistency and article usage.
