Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all key features of the graph, including the main trends and some specific data points. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical and lacks a deeper synthesis of the data. For instance, the description of the film club is slightly confusing, as it mentions a decrease after a decade and then a peak at the end, which could be explained more clearly. While the main features are identified, the comparison between categories could be more sophisticated to reach a higher band. The overview is present but could be more comprehensive by highlighting the most significant contrast between the activities.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, and the progression of ideas is generally clear. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'In contrast' are used to link sentences and paragraphs. However, some of the transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, but there are instances where the flow could be improved by using more varied linking phrases rather than relying on simple sequence markers. Overall, the structure is coherent and serves the purpose of the task well.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to describe trends and figures. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'fluctuations' and 'dramatically'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and phrasing, such as 'people who involved in' instead of 'people involved in' or 'people who were involved in'. Additionally, the use of 'zero%' is slightly awkward. To improve, the writer should focus on more precise collocations and ensure that terminology related to data description is used accurately throughout the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'nearly 70% people' (should be '70% of people'), 'after 1 decade' (should be 'a decade'), and 'if time' (a typo for 'of time'). There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and preposition usage, such as 'people who involved in'. These errors occur frequently but do not significantly impede communication. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to demonstrate more consistent control over complex structures and reduce the frequency of basic grammatical slips.
