Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all the activities mentioned in the graph and identifies some main trends. However, the reporting of data is inconsistent and lacks precision. For example, you mention 'less than 20' for table tennis in 2000, but the graph shows a clearer starting point. Furthermore, the description of the film club as 'remained stable' is accurate, but the analysis of martial arts is vague. To improve, ensure you provide specific data points for the start, end, and any significant turning points to support your observations. The overview is present but could be more effectively integrated to highlight the most significant differences between the trends.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally awkward, such as 'Turning to, amateur dramatics'. Some transitions are missing or repetitive, which affects the flow of ideas. While there is a logical progression from the overview to the body paragraphs, the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect the data points more fluidly. The referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure feels a bit disjointed.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic. You rely on simple descriptors like 'remained same', 'sudden drop', and 'steady rise'. While these convey the meaning, they do not demonstrate the range required for higher bands. There are also some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'people start taking part in 2005 by 2020'. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'plateaued', or 'a marginal increase'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('at social center', 'in Australia'), verb tenses ('The film club which was remained stable'), and prepositions. Some sentences are fragmented or lack necessary articles, which makes the writing feel less professional. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
