Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the graph, such as the overall upward trend and the specific performance of the film club and table tennis. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear, cohesive overview. While the key trends are identified, the description of the data is occasionally inaccurate (e.g., stating martial arts ends with the 'beginning participants' when the graph shows a different trend). The summary of the data is sufficient to meet the requirements, but the lack of precise comparisons and the inclusion of some inaccurate data points limit the score to a 5.5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as the repetitive use of 'where' to link clauses. The progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed, particularly in the third paragraph where the transition between different activities feels abrupt. While there is an attempt to use linking words, the overall flow is hindered by awkward phrasing and a lack of sophisticated transitions between sentences and paragraphs.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several spelling errors (e.g., 'participanta', 'flactuated', 'begning', 'nad') and word choice issues (e.g., 'shoes sharp inclined' instead of 'showed a sharp incline'). The range of vocabulary is limited, relying on basic descriptors for trends. To improve, the student should focus on using more varied and accurate terminology for describing data, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained stable', and ensure that spelling is checked carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('The line graph illustrate', 'participants are increased'), incorrect verb tenses ('had begine', 'had begins'), and awkward sentence construction. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence structure prevents a higher score. Focusing on consistent tense usage and subject-verb agreement would significantly improve the quality of the writing.
