Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. Furthermore, the content is underdeveloped. While you identify the five activities, you do not provide a clear summary of the data trends or make meaningful comparisons between the categories. The description is repetitive and relies on subjective commentary (e.g., 'mostly people like to watch movies') rather than objective reporting of the data provided in the graph. To improve, ensure you describe the starting and ending points for each activity and highlight the most significant changes or trends over the 20-year period.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay lacks a logical structure. The introduction is fragmented, and the body paragraphs do not follow a clear progression. While you use some basic cohesive devices like 'First of all' and 'Secondly', the transitions between ideas are often abrupt or confusing. The paragraphing is insufficient, and the lack of a clear overview makes it difficult for the reader to follow the main trends. To improve, organize your response into a clear introduction, a summary of main features, and two distinct body paragraphs focusing on specific trends or comparisons.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic terms like 'peak' and 'popular' without demonstrating a range of synonyms or precise academic language suitable for describing data. There are also several spelling errors, such as 'Amature' and 'counties' (likely meant 'continues'), and awkward phrasing like 'musical performances is popular'. To improve, focus on learning vocabulary related to trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'experienced a sharp increase', or 'reached a plateau'. Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives and adverbs will also help improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'musical performances is popular'), missing articles, and incomplete sentence structures (e.g., 'The Amature dramatic ls going up 2010 to counties'). The range of grammatical structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. There is a lack of complex sentence construction, which is necessary for higher band scores. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and practice using complex structures like relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions.
