Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response effectively addresses the task by identifying the main trends and providing relevant data points. You have successfully selected key features, such as the growth in table tennis and the decline in amateur dramatics, and made appropriate comparisons. The overview is clear and captures the essence of the data. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are fully accurate and that you consistently provide comparative language throughout the body paragraphs. For example, while you mention the film club, you could have explicitly compared its stability or slight growth against the more volatile trends of other activities to further strengthen the analytical aspect of your report.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0

The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. The progression of ideas is smooth, and you use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'At the beginning of the period', and 'Turning to'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different categories of activities. The flow is generally natural, though some transitions could be slightly more sophisticated to avoid a mechanical feel. Overall, the information is presented in a way that is easy to follow, and the referencing is clear throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey information with precision. Phrases like 'downward trend', 'rose significantly', and 'dramatic decline' are well-chosen and appropriate for an academic report. There is some repetition of the phrase 'number of participants', which could be improved by using synonyms like 'attendance figures', 'participation levels', or 'the count of individuals'. While the vocabulary is adequate and accurate, incorporating a few more sophisticated collocations or less common lexical items would elevate the response to a higher band level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5

The response displays a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are error-free, and the grammar is generally controlled. However, there is a minor subject-verb agreement error in the second paragraph: 'the number of participants in martial arts remain stable' should be 'remained stable' to match the past tense used elsewhere. Additionally, ensure consistency in tense usage when describing historical data. Despite these minor slips, the grammatical control is strong, and the errors do not impede communication or cause any difficulty for the reader.
