Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully identified the main trends and provided a clear overview of the data. You covered all five activities and made relevant comparisons, such as noting the intersection of Table tennis and Amateur dramatics in 2010. However, the report could be improved by ensuring the data points are more precise; for instance, describing the start and end points of Martial Arts as '38' and '39' is accurate, but the overall analysis lacks a cohesive summary of the most significant changes. The description of the film club as having a 'high interest' is a good start, but ensure you always support such claims with specific figures from the graph to fully meet the requirements for a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The response is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'However' and 'After that', to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel slightly abrupt. For example, the transition between the overview and the detailed body paragraphs could be smoother. Additionally, the referencing is generally clear, but the paragraphing could be more balanced to ensure that the information is grouped more logically, perhaps by grouping activities with similar trends rather than listing them individually.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fluctuating trend', 'surged rapidly', and 'plunged'. These choices help convey the movement of the data effectively. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'participants on five activities' (should be 'in') and 'at the higher trend' (should be 'at a high level'). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations related to data description.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'had been in a same level' (should be 'at the same level'), 'had raised slowly' (should be 'rose slowly'), and 'no one had passion' (which is slightly unnatural in this context). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and article errors. While these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede the reader's understanding of the data. To reach a higher band, focus on consistent verb tense usage, particularly when describing past trends versus current states.
