Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the score. While you have identified some main features, the overview is weak and lacks a clear summary of the overall trends. The data reporting is inconsistent; for example, you state that Table Tennis started at 'absolute zero' in 2000, but then mention '15' in the next paragraph, creating a contradiction. Furthermore, the description of the trends is often inaccurate or confusing. To improve, ensure you provide a clear, concise overview of the main trends in the introduction and verify that the data points cited match the graph accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay lacks a logical structure. The paragraphing is disjointed, and the progression of ideas is difficult to follow. You use some cohesive devices like 'Whereas' and 'Meanwhile', but they are often used incorrectly or in a way that makes the sentences sound unnatural. The frequent repetition of 'club' and 'members' makes the text feel mechanical. To improve, focus on grouping related information into distinct paragraphs (e.g., one for increasing trends and one for decreasing or stable trends) and use linking words more precisely to connect your ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You rely heavily on basic verbs like 'growed' (which is grammatically incorrect) and 'decreased'. There is a lack of variety in how you describe trends, and some word choices are inappropriate for an academic report, such as 'is so good'. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate a wider range of vocabulary to describe data, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'experienced a significant rise', or 'declined gradually'. Avoid informal language and focus on precise terminology for describing graphs.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the response that impede communication. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'clubs number of participants are dramatically increased'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'significantly growed up'), and missing articles or prepositions. The sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of past tense verbs for reporting data from the past. Proofreading for basic errors like 'growed' instead of 'grew' is essential.
