Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully develop the response. While you have identified the main features and provided some comparisons, the analysis is quite brief. You have correctly highlighted the trends for the film club and table tennis, but the lack of sufficient length prevents a more detailed exploration of the data. To improve, ensure you provide a more comprehensive overview and include more specific data points or comparative analysis to reach the required length. The summary is accurate in its reporting of the trends, but it lacks the depth expected for an Academic Task 1 response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response is logically organized into paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on specific trends. You have used some cohesive devices such as 'Meanwhile', 'On the other hand', and 'Moreover' to link ideas. However, the progression of ideas is somewhat mechanical, and the paragraphing could be more balanced. The transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is clear, but the overall flow is hindered by the brevity of the text. To improve, try to use a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensure that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus that contributes to a more cohesive narrative.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have used a range of vocabulary appropriate for describing trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'rose', 'steadily', and 'experienced the largest increase'. This is sufficient for the task. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is some repetition of basic structures. To achieve a higher band score, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary to describe the data, such as 'witnessed a sharp decline' instead of 'went down rapidly' or 'remained relatively stable' instead of 'fluctuated slightly'. The vocabulary used is accurate and does not impede communication, but it lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'The line graph illustrate' (subject-verb agreement) and 'it stood at 25' (capitalization error). Additionally, the sentence 'And It was in Melbourne, Australia' is grammatically awkward. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they are frequent enough to affect the overall quality. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, proper capitalization, and sentence construction. Aim to vary your sentence structures further by using more complex clauses to describe the relationships between the data points.
