The graph illustrates number of people who participated in activities of different nature at one of the social centres in Melbourne, Australia during the period from 2000 to 2020.
Overall, the number of participants involved in different activities varied with the time. For example, for the first 5 years, no one took part in musical performances and the number went up to around 18 in 2020. Other surprising trend is seen in the growth of participants who took part in the Table tennis, abrupt growth after year 2010.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the graph, including trends for musical performances, table tennis, and amateur dramatics. However, the response is slightly under the 150-word minimum, which limits the depth of the analysis. While the overview is present, the reporting of data is somewhat selective, and the lack of sufficient length prevents a more comprehensive summary of all categories. The comparison between categories is attempted, but the overall development is constrained by the word count, leading to a score that reflects the partial coverage of the data provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on specific trends. Cohesive devices such as 'For example', 'Other surprising trend', and 'Comparing these trends' are used to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel abrupt. The referencing is generally clear, but the progression of ideas could be smoother to better guide the reader through the data comparisons. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the overview from the detailed analysis.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to describe trends like 'sharp decline' and 'stable'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and phrasing, such as 'activities of different nature' instead of 'diverse activities' and 'kept winning about' which is unclear. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, and the student relies on basic descriptors. To reach a higher band, the student should incorporate more precise academic collocations and avoid awkward phrasing when describing data points.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('illustrates number of people', 'took part in the Table tennis') and awkward verb forms ('Amateur dramatic shown a sharp decline'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall fluency. The student demonstrates an attempt at complex structures, but control over these is inconsistent, leading to errors in subject-verb agreement and preposition usage.
