Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response effectively covers all requirements of the task. You have identified the main trends, such as the film club's popularity and the significant growth in table tennis, while also noting the decline in amateur dramatics. The data is accurately reported, and the inclusion of an overview paragraph is a strength. To reach a higher band, ensure that you make more explicit comparisons between the categories rather than just listing the data for each one individually. For example, you could contrast the growth of table tennis with the decline of amateur dramatics more directly to highlight the shifting preferences at the centre.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding summary. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the data, which helps the reader follow your points easily. You use some cohesive devices like 'On the other hand' and 'In conclusion' effectively. However, the transition between sentences could be smoother; some sentences feel a bit disjointed. Using a wider variety of linking words and referencing (e.g., 'this trend', 'the latter') would improve the flow and help you achieve a more sophisticated level of cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly. Phrases like 'showed the biggest growth' and 'increased steadily' are accurate and appropriate for a report. However, the vocabulary is somewhat repetitive, particularly the use of 'increased' and 'number'. To improve, try to incorporate more varied synonyms such as 'surged', 'fluctuated', 'plummeted', or 'remained stable'. Using more precise reporting verbs and nouns will demonstrate a greater level of lexical flexibility, which is necessary for higher band scores.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
Your grammar is generally accurate, and your sentences are easy to understand. You use a mix of simple and some complex structures, which is good. There are very few errors, and those that exist do not impede communication. To improve, try to incorporate more complex sentence structures, such as using relative clauses (e.g., 'Table tennis, which saw the most significant growth, rose from...') or participle phrases to combine information. This would demonstrate a wider grammatical range and help you move towards a higher band score.
