Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
The response effectively addresses all parts of the task. You have provided a clear overview of the main trends and selected key data points to support your descriptions. The comparison between activities is well-handled, particularly the contrast between the growth of table tennis and the decline of amateur dramatics. All figures are accurately reported, and the inclusion of the 'no participants' data for musical performances shows good attention to detail. To reach a higher band, ensure that the overview highlights the most significant overall trend more explicitly, perhaps by grouping the activities by their trajectory (e.g., those that grew versus those that declined) to provide a more analytical summary.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.5
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs that group information by activity type. The progression of ideas is smooth, and you have used cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'However', and 'In conclusion' effectively to guide the reader. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different aspects of the data. The flow is natural, and the relationship between the different activities is clearly established throughout the text. The structure is coherent and easy to follow, meeting the requirements for a high band score in this criterion.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.5
You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'increased greatly', 'fell steadily', and 'grew strongly'. The terminology is accurate and appropriate for a report of this nature. While the vocabulary is functional and clear, it is somewhat standard. To achieve a higher band, you could incorporate more sophisticated collocations or varied synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' to demonstrate a wider, more flexible range of lexical items. However, the current usage is precise and does not impede communication in any way.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 8.0
The response demonstrates a good control of grammatical structures. You have successfully used a mix of simple and complex sentences, and the majority of your sentences are error-free. Punctuation is used correctly, and the tense usage (past tense for the period 2000–2020) is consistent and accurate. There are no significant grammatical errors that hinder understanding. To move toward a higher band, you could experiment with more complex sentence structures, such as using participle clauses or more varied subordinating conjunctions to link your data points more fluidly.
