Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the task by identifying the main features and trends of the graph. You have successfully selected key data points for each activity and made relevant comparisons, such as noting the popularity of the film club and the growth of table tennis. However, the overview is somewhat brief and could be more analytical. To reach a higher band, ensure that the overview highlights the most significant trends (e.g., the contrast between the declining amateur dramatics and the rising table tennis) more clearly. The data is generally accurate, though the description of the film club's trend is slightly simplified.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with each activity or group of activities discussed in its own section. There is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the overview and then to the body paragraphs. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., starting sentences with 'In 2000', 'Then', 'After that'). To improve, try to vary your linking words and phrases to create a smoother flow between sentences and ideas, which would help the text feel less like a list of data points.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing you to describe the trends effectively. You use terms like 'participants', 'increase', 'decrease', and 'fall' correctly. However, the range is somewhat limited and repetitive. To achieve a higher score, you should incorporate more varied and precise vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'peaked', or 'a significant rise'. Additionally, ensure that you use appropriate collocations when describing data changes to demonstrate a more sophisticated control of language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The graph show', 'film club have', 'it go down') and verb tense consistency (e.g., 'it reach', 'it become'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the information, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your verb tenses are consistent when describing past data. Incorporating more complex sentence structures would also help demonstrate a wider grammatical range.
