Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response successfully identifies the main trends and provides a clear overview of the data. You have selected key features, such as the popularity of the film club and the significant growth of table tennis, which is essential for a Band 6.0. However, the report is somewhat mechanical, listing data points for each category rather than synthesising the information to make more insightful comparisons. To reach a higher band, you should group the activities by their trends (e.g., those that increased versus those that declined) and use more sophisticated language to describe the changes, rather than simply stating the numbers for each year.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs for the specific data. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite basic and repetitive. You rely heavily on simple transitions like 'Then' and 'After that'. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your ideas more fluidly, such as 'In contrast', 'Subsequently', or 'Following this trend'. Additionally, ensure that your referencing is clear; currently, the flow between sentences feels a bit disjointed because the connections are not always explicit.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to describe the trends clearly. You use terms like 'participants', 'increase', and 'decrease' correctly. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a lack of variety in how you describe the movements on the graph. For instance, 'rise up very much' is informal and imprecise. To achieve a higher score, you should incorporate more precise academic vocabulary, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'witnessed a sharp rise', or 'experienced a steady decline', which would demonstrate a more flexible and sophisticated command of the language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'film club have', 'it go down', 'it increase') and missing articles (e.g., 'shows number of participants'). These errors are noticeable and occur throughout the text. To improve, focus on mastering basic verb tense consistency and ensuring that your subjects and verbs agree. Incorporating more complex sentence structures, such as using relative clauses or participial phrases, would also help you demonstrate a wider grammatical range.
